How do we select our tutors?

Peer2Peer recruits the top 7% of high school students and the top 1% of college students for a variety of tutoring positions. Students must meet certain GPA criteria, usually a 3.7 minimum unweighted GPA, and must demonstrate a long-term commitment to a leadership activity in order to apply. Students are initially screened via telephone and then must go through an in-person interview process. Accepted students attend Peer2Peer Tutor Orientation during which we suggest research-based strategies for ensuring tutoring success. Transcripts are reviewed and references are checked. Our HR department is comprised of former tutors now in college and graduate school.

Associate Tutor Profile:

  • 3.8/4.4 GPA
  • 2100 SAT (700 math, 700 reading, 700 writing)
  • Involved in track, student government, drama, and more

Why are Peer2Peer tutors effective?

Peer2Peer has developed the structure needed to make peer tutoring a predicable, measurable and dynamic support tool for student learning. From our hiring and training programs to our M.O.M. management and interest-based matching, everything we do is research-based. We further put the motivations in the right place. From high hourly compensations to flexible schedules and “in the network” benefits, our tutors commit to Peer2Peer at a much deeper level.

What is your track record of success?

60% of our students increase by at least one letter grade after 20 hours of tutoring, and 80% of our students increase by that same amount after 40 hours of tutoring. Over 95% of our clients would refer Peer2Peer to a friend. We were voted Best Tutoring Company by Bethesda Magazine. As featured on CNN, The Washington Post, and NBC!  Learn more about our results

Where does the tutoring take place?

We come to your home or to another convenient location, such as a library or school.  All tutoring is 1:1, whether online or in-home.

What if a parent can't be home during tutoring?

The safety of your child comes first. A parent or guardian (18+ years old) is required to be present if tutoring takes place at your home. Otherwise, we are happy to meet your child at the school, library, or online if your presence during the session time is not possible.

Are the tutors the same age as the student receiving tutoring?

No. Normally, there is a two year age difference, at the minimum, between the client and the tutor to ensure that a role model relationship is formed. When a client is interested in a specialty subject (e.g. AP Calculus, AP Biology), we provide our most experienced college tutors through our 1:1 online tutoring option.

What are your sibling tutoring policies?

Peer2Peer is all about flexibility! Parents, you can purchase a single tutoring package (e.g. 20 hour package) and use tutoring hours how you see fit (e.g. 12 hours for sibling I, and 8 hours for sibling II). Simply have your tutor(s) come to your house and work 1:1 with each sibling for a given period of time. You can even split up the sessions as you prefer (e.g. 40 minutes with sibling I, 20 minutes with sibling II). If you choose to have both siblings tutored at the same time, then your rate would change to the group tutoring rate of $60 per hour.

Do you offer group tutoring sessions?

At Peer2Peer we recognize that sometimes sharing a session with a friend or neighbor can be an effective way to make learning cool. We schedule group tutoring for two students who are enrolled in the exact same course at $60 per hour in 4 hour package blocks. This is a reduced price from our 1:1 rates. A single payment is collected on behalf of both families, and both families are given access to an online account to monitor tutoring progress. We do not schedule group tutoring sessions for more than two students because it would compromise the effectiveness of our proven Peer2Peer tutoring model.

How much does Peer2Peer Tutoring cost?

We offer three package options with amazing terms and ability to pay in installments, in addition to a pay-as-you-go option.

Package Charge
20 hours in-home $900
20 hours online $1,000
40 hours in-home or online $1,600

  • Break down any package into 2 or 4 installment payments!
  • Full refunds for unused sessions
  • Share any package with siblings
  • Sessions carry over between school years

Why 20 and 40 hours? Every P2P student who increased by 2 or more letter grades in a troubling course used 40 hours or more of tutoring services. Consistency counts. Use tutoring twice per week for best results.

Why is online more expensive? Your child will be working with an expert College Tutor.  Additionally, online tutoring is offered exclusively for the most challenging high school subjects: AP/IB courses and college essays.

What if I do not want 20 or 40 hours? Use our Pay As You Go option for in-home tutoring in 1 or 2 hour payments of $45 or $90, respectively. Credit card payments only.

What is the cancellation policy?

Peer2Peer Tutors understands that the lives of our clients are quite busy, so cancellations are inevitable. We ask that you kindly give us 24 hour notice of all cancellations and we will work with you to reschedule your appointment. If a tutor does show up to your home without notice of the cancellation, there will be a 0.5 hour cancellation penalty. Please contact both the M.O.M as well as your tutor when canceling an appointment.

Do my sessions expire? If so, when?

Peer2Peer hours are transferrable between school years, and unused hours are fully refundable through 12/31 of the year following your purchase. For example, unused hours purchased in September 2011 would be fully refundable until Dec 31, 2012 and then expire. All Peer2Peer clients create and have access to an online account which provides, among other features, an up-to-date tutoring balance.

If I am paying by check, to whom and to where do I mail my payment?

Please make all checks out to 'Peer2Peer Tutors.' Our mailing address is: Peer2Peer Tutors c/o Aristotle Circle, 11257 S Glen Road, Potomac, MD 20854.

I am a current P2P customer and no longer want an auto-renewing package.

We know how pesky auto-renewing packages and emails can be for clients who regularly login to their account.  At any time when logged in, clients can click on their name (top right of page) to manage Account Preferences.  In preferences, you can update your account information, package preferences and email preferences.  Email us or Check out this tutorial for additional assistance

Do you offer scholarships?

Yes, we have a Double Bottom Line in which 1% of private tutoring revenues are donated back to school communities in free tutoring. Our goal is to empower ALL students.  Learn more about our philanthropy

I am the parent of a tutor. Where can I find safety information?

We have created a page for important parent information outlining our policies for creating a safe tutoring environment. Please review these policies here.

How do you handle students with learning differences such as ADHD?

Peer2Peer has developed a P2PhD program, which is a series of materials our tutors can use for working with students who have ADHD or Executive Function. When parents contact us regarding their child with learning differences, our M.O.M.s work with each client individually to understand whether the scope of our materials fits the needs of the student. When we feel our program is not the right fit, we make a referral to a specialist. We believe it’s very important to know what businesses we are not in.

What is a M.O.M?

Peer2Peer Tutors uses the term M.O.M as an acronym for Management Operational Mentor. The "MOM" is your local contact for all scheduling, coordination, matching, and customer support.  Check our meet our team page to read bios, or contact your MOM today.

How do I get in contact with my M.O.M?

Peer2Peer Tutors promises that if you contact a M.O.M. via email or telephone Monday through Thursday, we will follow-up within 24 hours of your inquiry. If you contact a M.O.M. on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, we will follow up no later than the following Monday morning. Visit our Contact Us page for the phone directory or to submit a contact form.
